Learn Finnish
Suomi · 5.5 million speakers · Lemmatizer: Voikko
Finnish has a reputation for being hard because its words shape-shift across fifteen cases, consonant gradation, and vowel harmony. Laesi solves the reader's half of that problem with Voikko, the reference-quality open-source Finnish analyzer. This is one of the languages we're most proud of.
What the big apps miss
Voikko, the best open-source Finnish analyzer
Voikko is built and maintained by the Finnish computational-linguistics community. It's what every serious NLP project uses, and Laesi knows how to drive it and walks you through installing it.
Handles consonant gradation and vowel harmony
Kirja / kirjan / kirjaa / kirjassa / kirjoista are all forms of one word. Voikko identifies the lemma behind each one, and Laesi still tracks the forms separately underneath it, so a shape you have never seen doesn't count as already known.
Designed for morphology-heavy languages
Laesi was built with Finnish in mind from day one. If it works here, it works for Icelandic, Faroese, Hungarian, and everything else with dense morphology.
